OBJECT: First Player or Team to Get 21 Points. To Win, You Must
Have at Least 2 Points More Than Your Opponent When You
Reach 21. You Must Win By Two Points.

RULE 1: LAYOUT OF COURT:
Old World Play - The original and most popular way to play. A court should cover an area of level ground of at least 8 feet in width and 38 feet in length and shall consist of 2 BEANO Platforms.
New World Play - Should have at least 45 feet in length.

RULE 2: PITCHING DISTANCE:
Old World Play - The holes on BEANO Platform shall be 30 feet apart, measured from the front of one platform hole to the front of the other platform hole. The regulation distance for children shall be 15 feet.
New World Play - The distance shall be 35 feet from the front of one platform hole to the front of the other platform hole.

RULE 3: PITCHER'S BOX
The pitcher's box shall begin at the front of the BEANO Platform and
shall extend 3 feet on either side and to the rear of the BEANO Platform.
The outer edges of the pitcher's box shall be known as foul lines.

RULE 4: POSITION OF THE PLAYERS
In delivering the bags into the opposite pitcher's box, a contestant may stand anywhere inside of the foul lines. If stepping on foul line while pitching a bag and foot extends a trifle over the foul line, this shall not be considered an improper position. Each player, when not pitching, must remain outside and back of the pitcher's box until his opponent has finished pitching.

RULE 5: THE FIRST PITCH
At the beginning of a game the contestants shall decide who shall have the first pitch by tossing a coin. The winner shall have the choice of pitching first or to follow. The opponents switch oft throwing bags, one bag by the first player, then the next player, alternating throws until all 6 bags have been pitched. Whomever scores the points gets to go first in the next inning. YOU MUST PITCH BEAN BAGS UNDERHAND.

RULE 6: A PITCHED BAG
The BEANO bag is considered pitched when it leaves the player's hand.

RULE 7: FOULBAGS
A BEANO bag pitched while the player is standing outside the foul line is a foul, and the pitched bag does not count. If the BEANO bag touches the ground before touching the BEANO Platform, that bag is a foul and does not count. If a bag does not strike the BEANO platform on a fly, it is a foul pitch and does not count. Foul bags shall be removed from the pitcher's box or BEANO Platform.

RULE 8: INTERFERING WITH PITCHED BAGS
No contestant shall touch his own or his opponents bags after they have been pitched until the final decision has been rendered as to the scoring values of the bags. Failure to comply with this rule shall result in all bags of the offender being declared foul and his opponent shall be entitled to as many points as the position of his bags on the BEANO Platform or hole should warrant.

RULE 9: DEFINITION OF A "BEANO"
A BEANO is a bag that goes into the hole by either sliding across the platform surface or by swishing directly into the hole. This is known as a "BEANO" and is scored as 3 points.

RULE 10: BAGS KNOCKED OFF PLATFORM AND KNOCKED INTO HOLE
Whenever a player knocks off his opponent's bag, such knocked off bags lose their scoring value. If a player knocks in one of his opponent's bags into the hole, the changed bag has scoring value and credit for a "BEANO" for its owner.

RULE 11: SCORING RULES - REGULATION GAMES
A regulation game shall consist of 21 points in all tournaments and matches. Each game is divided into innings and each inning constitutes the pitching of 6 bags with the two players each pitching 3 bags by alternating pitches.

RULE 12: SCORING POINTS - OLD WORLD PLAY
Old World Play is the original and most popular way to play. The only difference in Old World Play compared to New World Play is the way points are scored. In Old World Play it does not matter who is closest to the hole on the BEANO Platform. If a BEANO bag is on the platform, it counts as a point. If your opponent puts a BEANO bag on the platform it cancels the point, no matter what the position of BEANO bags in respect to the hole. After all bags are thrown points are totaled for each player. The difference would determine the points scored.

Examples:

  1. Player A scored 3 points (3 bags on platform)
Player B scored 2 points (2 bags on platform)
Player A would have 1 point for that toss because 3 minus 2 equals point. The
player with the most points scored would get the points; Player A would get
    1 point.
  2. Player A scores 7 points (2 BEANO's = 6 & I on platform = 7 points)
    Player B scores 4 points (1 BEANO = 3 & 1 on platform = 4 points)
Player A would have 3 points for that toss because 7 minus 4 equals 3.
  3. Player A scores 7 points (2 BEANO's = 6 & 1 on platform = 7 points)
    Player B scores 7 points (2 BEANO's = 6 & 1 on platform = 7 points)
In this example, no player scored more than the other player, therefore, no
points were scored in that toss.

SCORING POINTS - NEW WORLD PLAY
All bags shall be on BEANO platform to score.
Closest bag to hole scores 1 point.
Two bags closer than opponent's scores 2 points.
Three bags closer than opponent's scores 3 points.
One BEANO scores 3 points.
Two 1 BEANO's score 6 points.
Three BEANO's score 9 points.
One BEANO and closest bag of same player scores 4 points.
Two BEANO's and closest bag of same player scores 7 points.

If a contestant shall have two BEANO's and his opponent one, the player having two BEANO's shall score 3 points. If a contestant shall have three BEANO's and his opponent one, the player having three BEANO's shall score six points. If a contestant shall have three BEANO's and his opponent two, the player having three BEANO's shall score 3 points. All measurements to determine which bag is the closest to the hole shall be made by the use of a straight edge or calipers.

Recap on scoring points - in case each contestant has a BEANO or each contestant has two BEANO's, the next closest bag to the hole shall score. If each contestant has a triple BEANO, both triple BEANO's are canceled and no points scored. In case there is a tie of all six bags, six BEANO's or all six bags are equal distances from the hole, no score shall be recorded and the contestant who pitched last is entitled to pitch first the next throw.

RULE 13: MOVED PITCHED BAGS - NEW WORLD PLAY
When a thrown bag moves a bag already on the platform, all bags are counted in their new position.

RULE 14: CANCEL POINTS
All equals count as ties and no points are scored.

MISCELLANEOUS - INTENDED FOR OFFICIAL CONTEST

RULE 15: DISTANCE BETWEEN COURTS
Where several or more courts are constructed the BEANO Platforms adjacent to each other shall be placed on 2 straight lines not less than 10 feet apart.

RULE 16: CONDUCT OF PLAYERS

The penalty for violation of this rule shall be the declaring as foul all three bags pitched or to be pitched by the offender in the inning complained of. The referee shall be the judge of a violation of this rule.

No contestant shall walk across to the opposite BEANO Platform and examine the position of his opponent's bag before making his first or final pitch. All contestants shall pitch all three bags from the pitcher's box into the opposite pitcher's box or forfeit the value of one point to his opponent.

Any player violating rules or guilty of any unsportsmanlike conduct, may be barred from further participation in the contest.

RULE 17: PROTESTS

If a tournament committee is in charge, appeals may be made to it from decisions of the referee, and decisions by the committee in all cases shall be final.

HELPFUL HINTS

HOW TO PITCH THE BEANO BAG:
First get a comfortable grip on the BEANO bag. The most common method is to put bag flat in hand going from wrist to fingertips, and grasp firmly with thumb. Throw the bag using an arch in it flight so that it has a better chance of staying on BEANO Platform when it lands. It is also very helpful to keep your eye on the BEANO Platform hole at all times during your pitch.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

Before pitching a BEANO bag, be absolutely sure that all participants, adults and children, spectators and pets, are clear and away from the path of a pitched BEANO bag. The margin of safety should also take into consideration a wild pitch!!
